Boolean searching gives you the ability to combine a variety of ‘operators’ with specific keywords or terms to produce more specific and more relevant search results:

AND – requires all words connected by AND be present in each result

OR – requires at least one of the terms connected by OR be present in each result

Parentheses ( ) – requires terms and operators that occur inside them be searched first

Quotation Marks ” ” – requires words be searched as an exact phrase

Asterisk *  – expands a search term to include all forms of that root word

AND NOT – retrieves records that do not contain the term following it
